Audition Process

Audition Process for THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE

  • Auditions will consist of a brief orientation, group dance audition, and an individual vocal audition.

    • No prior experience is necessary - our directors just need to see how you move and hear how you sound!

  • After the group orientation and dance audition, participants will be called individually to audition for our directors in a separate room in the order in which they signed in.

  • Bring a song of your choice that showcases your voice and performance abilities the best.

    • Maximum song length should be 1 - 1.5 minutes maximum.

    • Choose a song that is similar to the music from the show - you can find the soundtrack on sources such as Youtube.

      • You may sing a song from this show, but it is not preferred.

    • You must provide your own karaoke style backing-track (instrumental music, no vocals). Music on a CD or MP3 is acceptable. We will not have an accompanist.

      • MP3 music should be downloaded onto your playing device (smart phone, Ipad, etc.) and ready to play.

        • We will have a bluetooth speaker available to connect with your device

        • Wifi is not available and cell reception is very weak, so please download your music onto your device in advance.

      • We will have a CD player.

    • No acapella singing, please.

    • Children may have a parent come with them inside the audition room. If your child is too nervous to sing a prepared audition song, our music director may ask your child to sing along with some basic piano chords and/or a simple melody.

  • You may leave after your singing audition.

Callbacks:

  • Callbacks are by invitation only via email. Some casting decisions can be made at the audition, so some may be cast into roles without needing to participate in the callback process.

  • Callbacks will consist of cold readings from the script, and you may be asked to sing portions of songs from the show. Our music director will work on the songs as a group and then you will be given the chance to sing individually. Prior to the callbacks, you should become familiar with the show and the music. You can find the script, soundtrack and performances of the show on the internet. YouTube is a good source.

  • The cast list will be sent to everyone via email prior to the first rehearsal; please allow a few days. Our directors do their best to cast the show in a way that maximizes the talents and abilities of the individual cast members, as well as to create the most realistic cast of characters. This takes many factors into consideration including height, age, look, sound, chemistry with other characters, and much more. When casting lead roles, preparedness, maturity, self-discipline, demonstrated ability to take direction, and respect towards the directors and fellow cast members are taken into account.
